Left behind? Understanding communities on the edge

Local Trust partnered with the Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion (OCSI) to combine multiple national data sources and outline a statistically robust 'community needs' index for the first time.

This policy report coins the term "left-behind neighbourhoods" to designate areas that are both high on the index of multiple deprivation and have low levels of social infrastructure.

This key early insight from the programme was the catalyst for research into what these factors mean for neighbourhood policy and capacity building in deprived areas.
